About Us

The mission of the Department of Physiology falls within the overarching mission of the Brody School of Medicine, which is to improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina, and beyond, by training highly successful medical and graduate students in basic and advanced physiology.

The Department of Physiology is dedicated to advancing the understanding of physiology through excellence in education of medical and graduate students; to perform innovative and groundbreaking research in its related sub-disciplines; to promote and inspire discovery and learning that enhances patient care; and to contribute to the translation of scientific progress into clinical practice. Faculty in the department strive to provide leadership and excellence to medical and graduate students with a deep knowledge of physiological processes in human physiology and pathophysiology, and to foster critical thinking and integrative novel approaches that will improve the understanding of human physiology in health and disease.
